Kingfisher Tide

A portrait of the Sacred Kingfisher (Todiramphus sanctus), which I often see perched on branches when I am amongst the mangroves fishing or exploring coastal rivers up here in North Queensland. They are a pleasant colourful distraction from the sandflies and are more common during the winter mon. They inhabit mangroves, open eucalypt & melaleuca forest.

King Parrot

Australian King-Parrot (Alisterus scapularis) A juvenile male King Parrot. As it reaches maturity its head will become completely red. Their diet consists of mainly seeds and fruit, which they often gather high in the trees canopy. They are found along the eastern coastal ranges of Australia and usually in the highland rainforests or wet sclerophyll forests.

The sacred kingfisher (Todiramphus sanctus) is a medium sized kingfisher with a turquoise back, turquoise blue rump and tail, buff-white underparts and a broad cream collar. There is a broad black eye stripe extending from bill to nape of neck. This bird inhabits woodlands, mangroves, open eucalypt & melaleuca forest.

Brown Falcon

The Brown Falcon (Falco berigora) is a member of the falcon genus found in the drier regions of Australia. It differs from other falcons in that it has broader wings and longer legs. Even though it is as large as the largest falcon, it usually hunts smaller prey.The Brown Falcon usually nests in old nests abandoned by other birds.This species occupies a large area of inland Australia.
