Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis)
The Cattle Egret is a stocky heron standing approximately 50cm high. During the breeding season, adults develop orange-buff plumes on the back, breast and crown, and the bill, legs and irises become bright red for a brief period prior to pairing. The Cattle Egret has a habit of following cattle and other large animals and is a popular bird with cattle ranchers for its perceived role as a bio control of parasites.
