Butterfly Quilt wins first prize…by Di Turner

Here are a couple of photos Di Turner sent us of her winning quilt design. She has combined one of our large fabric prints called Ginkgo with her creative talents to
produce a stunning artquilt. Im sure it will inspire others to get creative.

During Mental Health Week which was held recently, there was a local competition seeking entries in a wide range of art categories. The theme this year was “Tranformation” and I decided the theme could be expressed well using butterflies in various stages of “Transformation” from cocoon through to a butterfly which was at the end of its life span. The butterflies were embroidered using an embroidery machine and manipulated to show the various stages of transformation. The Ginkgo panel was a big favourite of mine and fitted beautifully into the overall colour scheme I wanted to use.

It won first prize. I am considering donating it to the local Respite Organisation Little Haven which is having a Christmas Fair at the end of the month. Incorporated into that Fair is an art auction to raise funds so it seems logical the quilt could have a continuing benefit to the community.
